Big Ben Races and Foreshore Festival – Kew Bridge (W4 3NG) and Putney Embankment (SW15), London
Saturday 23rd September 2017 

The Plastic Ocean Festival will join London’s Big Ben Races and Foreshore Festival on Sat 23rd September, 2017.
The Big Ben Race is a 20km SUP race from Putney to Big Ben and back as well as a 10km Big Ben Challenge, organised by Active360.
The Foreshore Festival celebrates the fabulous and unique environment of the tidal Thames, organised by triple-Olympic gold medallist Andrew Triggs-Hodge and supported by Tideway.

The Plastic Ocean Festival will hold two SUP ‘Paddle & Pick’ sessions from Kew to Putney and have taster sessions and film screenings throughout the day:

  • 8:30am-10:30am Paddle & Pick for beginners. Cost: £20
  • 9am-10:30am Paddle & Pick for returning paddlers (if you’ve paddled with Active360 before). Cost: £10
  • Book your session through the Active360 calendar
  • SUP Taster sessions will also run from 11am-3pm at Putney
  • Watch Sky’s ‘A Plastic Tide‘ and find out more about the documentary film ‘A Plastic Ocean‘ in the boathouses alongside the river.

9:30am Watertrek volunteers arrive at Fulham-Crabtree wharf (upriver of Fulham FC) to pick up plastic bottles and other litter

10:15am Some experienced paddlers stop at Fulham-Crabtree wharf to pick up plastic bottles and plastic collected by volunteers on their boards

10:30am All paddlers from Kew to arrive at Putney site

Come along for a full day of fun on this year’s Tidefest, London’s biggest and best foreshore festival – with stand up paddleboarding, Paddle and Pick clean-ups and ‘A Plastic Ocean’ screening from 3pm.

9.00 – 11.00am – Paddle and Pick clean-up of Kew Bridge Drawdock with a free one hour paddle for participants – £5 suggested donation to Watertrek to enable tackling plastic pollution.

11.00 – 11.50 taster session for 18 people

12.00 – 12.50 taster session for 18 people

13.00 – 13.50 taster session for 12 people

14.00 – 14.50 taster session for 12 people

15.00 –  15.50 taster session for 18 people

Cost:  £8 adults, £4 under 18s (with parent)

Watertrek Charity Paddle to Old Isleworth

13.00 – 15.00pm – Two hour return trip to Old Isleworth (includes a lesson for beginners) for 12 people.

Costs: £20 per adult and £10 under 18s (with parent). All proceeds to Watertrek

7pm-10pm screening of the documentary film ‘A Plastic Ocean’ at SEA LIFE London aquarium!

Many of the animals are threatened in the wild by plastic debris that remains in the oceans for hundreds of years. Spreading this message and encouraging people to reduce their use of plastic is a huge priority for the conservation team who invite you to come along and learn more about this issue and its impact on the environment.
